I know that I’m not alone in wishing for warmer weather these days.  Southern girls just aren’t made for gray skies, cold rain and snow…and this winter has been OUT OF CONTROL!  I also know that there will come a point this summer when I’m out shooting a wedding in the sweltering, Alabama mid-summer heat & I will be praying for a blast of cold, but right now, I’d do just about anything for some warm sunshine on my face.  In the meantime, I’ll just sit here huddled up to my space heater, looking at this gorgeous Lake Martin sunset shining on this beautiful bride and dream of sweet summer time.

(And this summer, when I’m complaining about the heat, just slap me.)

Happy Hump Day!

Yes, I’m a little bit behind on my 2013 review posts, but in all honesty, I had almost decided not to jump on that bandwagon this year until I started organizing my hard drives and seeing all of the greatness 2013 had to offer.  Because 2013 was such a fantastic year for me and my brand new business, I finally decided that I just couldn’t let it pass with out honoring and remembering the people and the moments that made my year so great.  So, because February is the month of L O V E and because I’m feeling extra sappy today, I decided to show off my favorite couples from 2013.

You know you’re a lucky girl & love your job when you’re going through all of your past engagement sessions & start getting teary over all of the love pouring out of the amazing couples you have the honor of working with.  For real.  This is what I get to do? Just stop.

While hundreds (thousands??) of people were stranded in cars, at work, school, gas stations, etc, I was lucky enough to be stranded at home with a couple of goofy dogs.  I was super excited when I saw the snow start to fall.  I thought, “Yay! Snow day, fun day!” But I quickly realized that may not be the case. Once I realized that there was no chance at all of

A. having anyone to play in the snow with and…

B. having anyone to have a photoshoot in the snow with…

I hunkered down inside with some blankets, a space heater and my computer.  However, after several hours of working and staring longingly out the window at the snow, wishing I could go play, I grabbed my camera and the dogs and headed out for a walk.  I forced these sweet pups to be my models and they were surprisingly cooperative (for about 32 seconds)…then I just focused on the things that couldn’t move 🙂

While my heart and prayers go out to all of those stranded in not-so-ideal situations, I had a pretty good snow day.  (But I’m happy for the thaw so I can get out and get rid of this cabin fever!)

When you’re a photographer who works from home and you spill water on your computer, your world kind of stops.  That’s what happened to me about 2.5 weeks ago and I’ve been paralyzed until now.  Thankfully I am a crazy person when it comes to backing up my files, so I didn’t lose anything (except the computer!) and I had business insurance that covered most of the cost of the replacement…YES, I had to get a whole new computer….who knew that a little bit of water could be so devastating?!!! But the good news? I’m finally back up and running after a week and a half of trying to re-download all of my software programs, running into a few snafu’s, erasing the entire system and starting over again…AND my new computer is LIGHTENING FAST compared to my old one! This is going to make my life and my workflow a million times better and I’m so excited!!! Thankfully this disaster happened during the slowest time of year for me, but now I’m ready to start shooting again so I can see how awesome my editing speed will be!!  Bring it on 2014…I’m ready!!

When Dean found out he would be moving to Birmingham from Houston, TX to begin his residency at UAB, Hailey immediately set to work searching for a job in The Magic City.  Initially thinking she would have to spend a few months in Houston without Dean while she continued her search, fate had other plans.  Hailey was thrilled when she found a teaching position at UAB’s medical school and was hired to begin at the same time Dean would be starting his residency!  They moved about 6 months ago, have since settled in and are happy to now call Birmingham home.

Even though the day of our session was absolutely frigid, Hailey & Dean and their adorable pups pushed through the shivers and were amazing.  We ended up having such a wonderful time and were able to end the day thawing out over some delicious coffee at O’Henry’s Coffee in Highland Park.

If you look closely, you can totally see the chill bumps on Hailey’s arm! It.  Was.  COLD y’all.

After a while, they’d had enough, so we bundled up and pushed through! Such troopers!
