I had a dream last night that Bath & Body Works had re-stocked my all time favorite candle (Slatkin & Co. Creamy Nutmeg) and I went nuts and purchased every single one they had.  Then I woke up to the devastating realization that it was only a dream and I cried.  Okay, I didn’t really cry, but I could have.  Are there any other Creamy Nutmeg lovers out there with broken hearts that this fragrance no longer exists?  I think we shold stage a protest…or a B&BW sit-in until they bring it back.  Who’s in?

Anyway, back to real life.  I spent most of my time last week updating and revamping my website.  I’m no web/graphic designer, so the vision that I have in my head isn’t exactly making it out onto the screen, but I think I like this new version a little bit better.

What do you think?

I’d love some honest feedback from you!  Here are some screen shots of the before & after home pages, but I would love if you would head over to my website and take a look around & tell me what you think!  www.emilydeanphotography.com

All morning I have been searching for inspiration for a blog post.  I picked up a book that I purchased a few years ago & started flipping through the pages, hoping an idea would hit me…and WHOA, did it ever.  But not exactly the sort of idea I originally wanted.

The book I’m referring to is Pottery Barn’s “Photos: Style Recipes.”  It is all about unique and interesting ways to display your treasured photographs in your home.  As I was reading though, I was struck by something that really makes me feel ashamed & sad.  One of the articles talks about how to preserve & archive your prints in a way that also encourages browsing {by you and your guests}…because isn’t that the WHOLE POINT of a photograph??  To have it accessible for viewing…to remember the time & place it was taken?  DUH!  As a photographer, I should know this better than anyone, but I couldn’t tell you the last time I had my own photos {family snapshots} printed.

OH the SHAME!!

What good are all of those precious memories doing me just hanging out on my hard drive?  Absolutely nothing.  One day, I’m going to forget that they even exist & in a few years, that hard drive probably won’t even work anymore!  I can’t stand the thought!

So, my mission over the next several months is to start printing those photos little by little (because let’s face it, prints are EXPENSIVE…even the “cheap” ones can add up!)  One of my favorite things to do when I visit my grandmother’s home is to flip through old photo albums.  It’s one of the reasons I love photography so much & I’ve let that slip away from me.  But no more!! Let the printing begin!!!

{Because, come on! Photos like this of my brother and me are just BEGGING to be printed and displayed!}

What are some of your favorite ways to store and/or display your family snapshots?  I need some good ideas 🙂

Happy Hump Day, y’all!

Since last year was my “I’m-figuring-out-if-I-can-do-this-getting-my-feet-wet-and-my-name-out-there” year, I really didn’t get an accurate picture of how the different photography seasons {more specifically, wedding season} play out.  By the time I heard the wedding industry buzzing about “engagement season” it was December, January & February (Christmas, New Year & Valentine’s Day).  So, I thought “alright, this is when most weddings are booked for the coming year!”  Wrong {sort of}.  Yes, new engagements and wedding planning are booming during that time, but I had no idea that there was another engagement season.

Summer.

It seems like new engagements are happening everyday & my inbox is being flooded by excited new brides-to-be getting a head start on planning their 2014 weddings…and I’m thrilled!  These brides are on top of it & dates are going fast, so if you’re engaged or know someone who is, it’s never too soon to start booking your favorite vendors.  In fact, the sooner the better.  There’s nothing worse than having your heart set on a certain photographer only to find out they are already booked for your date.  I absolutely hate having to turn anyone away, but it’s already happening.  So, don’t wait!!!

In the spirit of engagement season {my new favorite season, by the way,} I’m going to be hosting another Engagement Session Giveaway!!

The last one was such a huge success, that I can’t wait to do it again.  So, spread the word and come back tomorrow for details on how to enter.
